Caras cheeks heated up. ”Sorry, it wasn in purpose. You really look like someone I know. Is your name Dan by any chance? ”

”What kind of weird name is that? Is that even Chinese? My name is Jian Yu. ” Dan-lookalike replied.

”My name is Ying Yue, ” Cara said as she looked into the distance.

”How old are you? Are you attached? ” Cara asked.

Jian Yu laughed. He had never met a woman as straightforward as her! He wondered if all the girls outside the capital were all like her.

”Im 19 this year, and the Emperor has not betrothed a wife for me. ” he replied.

Cara had forgotten that betrothal was a thing in the past. Dating obviously did not exist. Well damn her!

”Is your family well-off? Why would the Emperor betroth a wife for you? ” Cara asked inquisitively.

”Im the chancellor. That means that any marriage alliance would be strategic for the country. ” Jian Yu replied as a matter of factly.

Cara felt sorry for him when she heard that. She couldn imagine being forced to marry someone for the sake of advancing the countrys strength.

Jian Yu was also observing the lady in front of him. She looked so delicate and beautiful, almost seductive. Her body looked so fragile that he felt the need to protect her. But yet, there was something in her eyes with a certain fierceness that attracted him.

Jian Yu sighed when he saw her expression, as if she was pitying him.

His next words surprised her, ”I have come to terms with it. Im a noble man. All my life, I have enjoyed the best food and wore the finest clothes. Ive lived a life of comfort and glory that commoners can never fathom. This is the duty I have to do, and the price I have to pay. ”

Jian Yu looked out of the window. He understood everything that he had told the doctor earlier. Love was not something he could concern himself with.

As they stopped over for dinner, Jian Yu explained the distance to the capital and how it would take them a week to get there.

Cara could not stop thinking about the similarities between Jian Yu and Dan. Surely, they looked the same but their personalities were very different.

Dan was a lot more straightforward and open. A very much progressive man from the 21st century. And very much a chatter.

Jian Yu on the other hand, did not seem to care much for conversation. He was a very upright character, but somewhat cold and distant. He was very much a mystery.

But they both seemed to be honest, caring men, which was most important to Cara.

——

The first night on the road ended with her sleeping on the grass. Well she had been given a tent, but she had been unable to sleep so she had came out to take a walk. For the first time since she had been in this body, she saw the stars. It had been impossible to see them in Singapore, with all the light pollution. But now she could even make out some (by some I mean some very basic) constellations.

”Those three dots must be Orions Belt. And that must be Polaris! Is that the big dipper? Or the small one? Well ** it! I can see the milky way! ” Caras mind raced excitedly. It was weird that stars would make her so excited.

She was really a kid at heart, eager to learn more about the world. But well, #adulting happened. Needed to pay her own bills and be independent and take responsibility.

Cara sighed as she laid on the grass and wondered how long she would be in this body. Surprisingly, her circumstances hadn been too bad. She had been so jaded facing intolerable patients at hospital and feeling like she was yet another unimportant piece of a large medical system. In the past few days though, she had almost felt a renewed passion for her job.

Though she highly likely needed to change her profession soon if she were to stay in this body. She had a look in her doctors bag the past few days and all she found were some needles, knife, cups candles and stones. Yeah, no idea what they were except that the needles were likely for acupuncture, which she had read about before very briefly but knew nothing about the practise.

She had tried to use Yue Yings memory to find out how to use those god damn needles but nothing seemed to work. She had been so frustrated that it wasn going to plan like what she had read in previous transmigration novels.

She scoffed, of course those stories of female lead remembering everything in the past body and becoming OP were not real! What was she even expecting?

How was she going to make any diagnosis with those items? Without a stethoscope? Or even prescribe medicine? Without penicillin? Or anti-biotics?

All those thoughts wore her out and eventually she had fallen asleep.
