Their next goal was to be able to use magic.

They decided that their next destination would be to go see a person they remembered as someone who knew a lot about magic.

“Now that we've returned the carriage we borrowed, we'll buy one too.”

“Yes, this trip has made me realize how much we need a carriage!”

After returning the carriage with deep gratitude to the nobleman Gaiszer, who had once again welcomed Ataru and Caro with open arms, they came to the carriage shop to purchase a carriage for themselves.

The store was lined with a wide variety of carriages, from inexpensive small ones to expensive ones with ornate decorations.
The shopkeeper here seemed to have decided to watch Ataru and Caro quietly or was working on his own at a distance.

“Is there any particular type you prefer, Caro?”

After a quick look around, Ataru couldn't tell whether the carriage was good or bad, so he asked Caro, who was standing next to him, for her opinion.

“I don't know all the details, but I think a larger size might be better for carrying luggage.
And perhaps we'll have more party members sometime in the future.”

As Caro said, the smallest size carriage would be full with two or three people.
For now, the two of them were traveling together, but if they were going to buy a carriage, they decided it would be better if it could be used for a variety of purposes.

“Well, let's go with this one, then.
We also need to find a horse.

Taking her advice, he chose a medium-sized carriage, and the next step was to buy a horse to pull it.

“There's horses in the back.”

After completing the purchase procedures, the carriage shop clerk led them to the back of the building.

There was a pasture-like open space where the horses were grazing.
Horses of all colors were spending their time freely.

“You have quite a lot of horses, don't you?

“Yes, our selection is second to none!”

When Ataru murmured that he was impressed, the shopkeeper replied with full of confidence.
There were so many horses and carriages in this store that it seemed as if their confidence was not due to pride.

“Please feel free to look around.
Just be careful, some of the horses have a rough temperament.”

As the clerk beckoned, Ataru and Caro entered the pasture and slowly looked at the horses one by one.
The horses were grazing or walking leisurely and didn't seem to be paying any attention to Ataru and Caro, so this must be a common occurrence.

Then one of the horses looked up and came over to them, rubbing its face against Ataru's as if it had forgiven him.[1]

“Oh, good, good.
Are you going to pull our wagon?”

“Hyahine!”[2]

The animal's cheerful cry seemed to be a response to Ataru's call.
Like Eustace at Gaiszer’s place before, Ataru smiled calmly, not feeling bad about being nuzzled by an animal.[3]

“Good answer.
Okay, you're one of us now!

“It's nice to meet you, isn't it?”

The horse lowered its head and brought it to a position where it could be stroked easily.
He then let Caro pet it as she liked and rubbed its face against hers in the same way it had done with Ataru.

“I see you like Caro too.
……
So I think I'll go with this guy.”

“Yes, sir.
He's a great horse, he's strong and young, and I think he'll be a good companion for a long journey.
I will attach him to the carriage, so please go back to the front.”

The shopkeeper urged Ataru and Caro to wait at the front after giving each horse a pat.
In the meantime, they paid another clerk.

After waiting for a while, the horse and carriage from earlier and the clerk who had guided them arrived.

“Thank you for your patience.
We understand that you have paid for the carriage and the horse, so as of today, they both belongs to you.”

“Oh, well, thank you.
It was an excellent purchase.”

Ataru was satisfied with his purchase and patted the horse's head with a smile.
It was the same for Caro.

“Blessings to you both on your journey.
Take care of yourselves.”

The clerk also bowed deeply, pleased that his horse had found a good master.

“All right, let's get going.
Caro, take the wheel.”

“Yes, sir!”

Ataru climbed into the carriage and Caro climbed into the driver's seat and slowly drove the carriage.

They left the city with new friends.

The first magic user that came to mind for the two of them was the guild master in the first city.
When the city had been attacked by demons, she had participated in the battle using her powerful magic.

Ataru and Caro thought that if she was as good as she was, she might be able to teach the two of them magic.

“Speaking of which, has ……
Caro ever tried to learn magic?”

As the carriage rocked along, Ataru leaned forward to look at the driver's seat and asked Caro, who was holding the reins.

“Yes, that's right.
I've always thought it would be nice to be able to use magic,……, but I'm in a position to do so,…….

Caro was a slave and was not allowed to have such freedom.
He was supposed to be endowed with the wisdom of slavery at the very least, but it might be inconvenient for him to have more power than that.[4]

“Oh, I see.
But it's not like I couldn't use it or didn't have the talent to do it, so it might work.
I'm the same way, I never had the chance to learn magic.”

Ataru, who seemed to have forgotten all about it, chose to say something encouraging.
It's a good idea to have a good idea of what you're looking for.

“That's right! I want the two of us to be able to use magic together!”

Caro smiled with happiness, and although she had never told anyone about it before, she secretly longed for magic.
However, it is said that beastmen are not very good at using magic, and in fact, not many of them use it.

But still, she could manage with Ataru.
Perhaps it was because of the time she had spent with him so far that such a seemingly baseless feeling naturally came to her mind.

“I'd like to be able to use magic too.
Where I come from, magic was something that existed only in the imagination, so I'd be pretty excited to be able to use it.”

For Ataru, who grew up on Earth, magic was something that existed in video games and manga, so he had a strong longing to be able to use it at will.
He had been skeptical until he actually saw the land of swords and magic after hearing about it from God, but now he was eager to try it out.

The two of them go on their way back, dreaming of magic in their minds.

On the way, Ataru rode on the roof to defeat monsters.
This had become a regular occurrence.
The horse didn't seem to be intimidated by Ataru's gun, but rather seemed happy to be able to go on without stopping every time.
Thanks to their efforts, the trip went smoothly, and they were able to arrive at the destination much faster than with the usual carriage ride.

“It feels like I've come home when I come back here.

“Yes, it does.”

When they returned to the city, which was still surrounded by magnificent walls, they greeted the guards briefly and were soon able to enter.
The atmosphere inside the city was as calm as it had been when Ataru and Caro had left.

Ataru naturally breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of the city.

It was the first city Ataru had ever visited, and Caro was deeply moved by the fact that it was the city where she had lived for a short time and had met her master, Ataru.

“Let's head to the guild first.
Hopefully we can meet the Guildmaster.
……”

Since Ataru was the one who had done a great job in defeating the monsters last time, it seemed that the Guildmaster would not ignore him, even if it was a sudden visit.
But Ataru himself didn't think he had done a great job, so these words leaked out unexpectedly.

(Garden’s corner: Sorry only one chapter today, I have lost control of today.)

[1] I don’t really understand this sentence so this is the best I can do.

[2] Best horse sound I could come up with based on the RAW.

[3] Sounds unrealistic unless you really like horses.
Do you know how bad horses smell? Fucking terrible!

[4] Best I can do could use suggestions for it.
