It was night, the stars shining in the sky with the moons proudly watching. After Connor volunteered to be one of the night watch, which was a team of people that kept an eye out while everyone slept, he was now looking around, in front of a boat, next to him, stood Lisa with a backpack on. She found out about his plan by luck when she wanted to keep Connor company on his watch. He couldn do anything with her around so he just told her, expecting some arguing but he got nothing other than her asking to join him. Reluctantly agreeing, she hurriedly gathered some essentials and joined him, breathing rapidly from nervousness.

After quickly untying and setting everything up, he slowly lowered the boat down. It made some noise, but luckily was not loud enough to wake people up.

And just like that, Connor and Lisa were on the water as they slowly rowed towards the beach. A few Walkers were around, but they just stood there like statues with their heads down. This made Connor curious, but he wasn about to wake them up from whatever state they were in.

The route he picked was completely empty as they quickly and quietly made their way towards the bungalow. With the door unlocked, Connor pushed it open and peeked in. The place was in a mess, but he couldn see any blood. It looked as if a fight happened here, but Connor could tell that it wasn with Walkers, but humans fighting amongst themselves. The lack of blood sold it, as Walkers were walking bloody bodies with countless injuries and bites.

”Stay here for a second! ” Connor told Lisa before making his way inside.

”Be careful ” She whispered.

Connor walked with his metal pipe raised, ready to throw hands if he must. The bungalow was not big, with a main entrance area which was a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. It was the size of a studio apartment, small but comfortable.

The living room was in a mess, Connor had to watch his steps very carefully. If he crushes something and there was someone or something inside, his advantage would be rendered null.

Pushing the bedroom door, he felt resistance, which took him some time to realize that it was some furniture rather than a person blocking it, but that meant nothing. Maybe it fell after whoever was here ran out, maybe some Walker was locked inside or maybe a person was in there, although that was a low chance since they could have just blocked the main door instead, but fear made people do a lot of dumb things so it was still an option.

Slowly pushing the door with some force, but not strong enough to make a ruckus, Connor peeked inside, seeing nothing again. Although the room was dark, if something was indeed inside they would have heard him pushing the door easily and probably acted or said something.

”Its clear ” Connor whispered to Lisa, in which she walked in and shut the door behind her. She also started walking around closing the blinds and windows while setting up a blockage for the main door just in case. Connor nodded in agreement. He cleared the bathroom as well and found nothing except it being untouched.

Cleaning up and organizing the place took about an hour and right after, Connor jumped onto the couch in the living room and tried to sleep.

”What are you doing? ” Lisa asked.

”You can take the bed ” He said, turning around.

Lisa stood there for a while before she walked towards the room. And just like that, the escape plan was a resounding success.

The sun started peeking through a window, aiming straight at Connors eyes. He grumbled before he turned around, trying to get back to sleep. Didn Lisa close the blinds? He thought, remembering. He quickly sat up, reaching towards his right for his metal pipe, but a wave of pain welcomed him as he slammed his hand on something.

”What the **! ” He said out loud as he looked around. He was back at the old house.. The one he slept in back in Gaya… He was back. He looked at the spot he slammed his hand and figured that it was the beds frame, the couchs structure was different, which led to this mistake. Just then he saw his good old trusted companion.. The machete.

”Am I the only one that is experiencing this? Or will I eventually meet others like me? ” He thought, standing up and grabbing his machete.

”I suppose I should continue exploring ” He said, unlocking the door. The area was exactly as he left it, and now that looked around better, he saw a continuation of the path which most likely was his next destination.

Getting everything in order, he started heading up the path. It looked like it led up a mountain, but he was unsure. As he walked, Connor started thinking about his sleep. Whenever he slept, he would wake up in a different world, but for some reason he felt physically fine, energetic as if he had the best sleep of his life, but what worried him was his mental health. ”I might be fine now, but at some point I won be able to take it! ” He said, feeling the mental exhaustion piling up.

He walked for a bit, before he stopped and stared at a structure. It looked old.. Ancient even. It was about the size of a hut, without the roof, made of stone, with pillars around the corners and a set of stairs that led to the high door.

”Is that a ruin? ” Connor muttered, fear setting in. He remembered the shadows he had seen in the castle back on earth and couldn help but stare at the door.

Darkness..

The path, unfortunately, passed in front of the stairs that led to it, which made him fearful. ”Should I go? ” Connor was uncertain, but with no other option, he took a deep breath, raising his machete, ready for whatever jumps at him. As he got closer, Connor noticed a broken cart on the road ahead, with its wooden wheel split in half. This made him think of something. ”What if this ruin was already cleared? The sailors said that the inquisition jumped on the opportunity with other factions to gain and learn from these places.. It doesn look like a big ruin either.. ”

Connor walked closer, when suddenly a screech was heard from behind him. ”FUCK! ” He had been paying too much attention towards the ruin door. He quickly jumped to the right, avoiding a stinger of sorts. He rolled and looked at the creature. It had dark wings with random yellow dots all around them with a moth-like body. It seemed that the body was too big for the wings to successfully fly properly again but it could still float.

It then screeched again, coming towards him. Connor dodged its stinger again and slashed with his weapon, aiming at the wings.. But nothing happened other than a small scratch appearing.

”What the ** are those things made out of? ” He muttered, rolling away again. This seemed to be an effective strategy against the creature. After striking once or twice, he had to roll away before that frightening stinger came towards him. For an insect looking thing, its body was a lot tougher than Connor thought, as he slowly accumulated damage. His plan was to take out a wing, then it would not be much of a threat. And just like that the fight continued for a while before a gash appeared on one of the moth-like things wing, rendering it incapable of flight. Connor then quickly rolled and appeared behind it, putting all of his weight onto the creature and started relentlessly aiming at its head. After about a few minutes of constant attacks, he finally managed to crack its skull open as yellow slime came out with a vomit inducing smell.

”I did it! ” He celebrated, but then a wave of relaxing energy hit him. His mental exhaustion was completely gone and he could even feel his loss of breath after the fight weaken, getting back to top shape again.

”What the hell was that? ” Connor muttered, confused.
