Conversation with Marie

———————————-

“So, what is it you wanted to talk to me about, Yuta?”

“Before that, may I ask how much you know about me?”

“About you, Yuta? You’re a spirit mage who’s been in a dispute with the Gild master and is called a fraudster, I believe.”

She seems to know quite a bit about me.
Well, that’s natural since anyone can easily find out by going to the Adventurer’s Guild.
It’s better to be known than to be unknown, and if it helps with our negotiations, that’s even better.

“Does it bother you to talk to a fraudster like me? Also, since I’ve had some trouble with the Adventurer’s Guild, it may be troublesome for you.”

“The reason you’re called a fraudster has been investigated, so please don’t worry.
The power of the Adventurer’s Guild in the Labyrinth City is great, so depending on the conversation, we may have to decline.”

It’s helpful that she’s being straightforward.
Considering the potential risk of worsening our relationship with the Adventurer’s Guild, it would be difficult to proceed with negotiations if the benefits don’t outweigh the risks.

“I see.
Also, since this is related to the labyrinth, there’s a possibility that it may not be compatible with a miscellaneous goods store.
Do you happen to have any contacts in this area?”

“Our Porius Trading Company isn’t just a miscellaneous goods store.
My father deals with labyrinth materials, so I believe we can accommodate your request.”

That’s a relief.
She looks so smug, though.

“Understood.
I can offer you a certain amount of profit, but there is a possibility that it may cause a rift in our relationship with the Adventurer’s Guild.
Would you like to hear the details?”

“Is it a surefire profitable deal? Yuta, it sounds like I’m listening to a fraudster’s pitch.”

She’s right.
There’s nothing more suspicious than a deal that promises a guaranteed profit.
This seems to be the same in both Japan and this other world.

“Now that you mention it, it does sound suspicious.
However, if you hear me out, I believe you’ll understand and be satisfied.
It’s a huge profit.”

“Hehe.
You seem very confident.
I’m excited to hear more.”

We both smile suspiciously and a strange aura of money seems to fill the room.
Or is it just my illusion?

“Well, there’s no doubt there is a huge profit.”

I also smiled suspiciously.
For some reason, we both have the atmosphere of a corrupt official and a merchant.

“Anyway, please continue with your story.”

After exchanging these strange smiles, Marie proceeds with the conversation.

“Okay, to put it simply, I want to sell materials without involving the Adventurer’s Guild since I have cleared the 50th floor.”

“Huh?”

…I’m not sure what she said, but I can tell she’s surprised.
It feels good.

“Um, could you please repeat that?”

“I have cleared the 50th floor, so I want to sell the materials without involving the Adventurer’s Guild.”

“You’re not joking… What about the Fire Dragon?”

“I defeated it.”

“…So, can you also sell the Fire Dragon’s materials wholesale?”

“I have stored them in the magic bag as they are, so it’s possible to sell any that I won’t use myself.”

Even if I sell everything, if I need more materials, I can always bring Sara, Marco, or Kika with me to fight the boss.
I also know Sylphy will defeat it again, but it’s dangerous to rely too much on her for making money, so let’s stop that.

“I can’t believe it all of a sudden, but if it’s true, I’d definitely like to make a deal.”

Marie’s eyes start to shine.
She’s so straightforward when it comes to money, I wouldn’t be surprised if her motto was “greed is good”.
As a merchant, it makes me worried.

“However, there are conditions for the sale of the materials.
The Adventurer’s Guild will probably investigate me, so please try to hide my involvement as much as possible.
It would be troublesome to cause friction between me and the guild, so if possible, wait until the last minute to reveal my involvement.”

“Yuta, do you really dislike the Adventurer’s Guild that much?”

“I’m also an adventurer, so it’s not that I dislike adventurers themselves.
It’s just that I don’t like the Adventurer’s Guild´s master and adventurers in this Labyrinth City.”

Huh? Marie seems to be taken aback.
But they’re the ones who picked a fight with me, so it can’t be helped.
Maybe I was also at fault to some extent, but the root of the problem lies with them, so there’s no issue.

“…I understand.
I will definitely fulfill the conditions.
I’ll prepare a contract for you.”

After thinking for a moment, Marie nodded.
“Well, you might not be popular with the Adventurer’s Guild, but for us it’s generally a very good deal.”

“No need for a contract or anything like that.
As long as you keep your end of the deal, I’ll come here to sell the materials.
And if it really sours your relationship with the Adventurer’s Guild, feel free to cut me loose,” replied Yuta.

He didn’t want to be bound by paperwork, especially since he had come all the way to another world.
Besides, Marie wasn’t foolish enough to be swayed by immediate profits, as she was only interested in making money.

“Well then, what kind of materials can you sell to us this time?” asked Marie.

“Let me see.
Oh, by the way, do you need peppercorns, Assault Dragon or Wyvern materials? You should be able to get them at the Adventurer’s Guild, but…”

“Please, we would definitely like those.
Although they may be somewhat available, they don’t meet the demand, so they would be very attractive products,” replied Marie.

They were supposedly valuable materials, especially since they came from the forefront of the labyrinth.
Despite being somewhat overshadowed by the Fire Dragon, they were still A-rank dragons and had their own value.

“In that case, I will sell peppercorns, Assault Dragon and Wyvern materials.
As for the Fire Dragon, it’s not a problem as long as you leave some meat for me.
Other than that, I have these herbs,” said Yuta.

He handed over the magical herbs which are  about one-fifth of the versatile herbs he had collected in a mountainous pile.

“Woah, this is…” Marie was drooling as she looked at the herbs.
“I’m sure this will make a lot of money.” She was quite pleased with the amount of profit they would make.

This woman was also quite beautiful, but it was a bit of a shame.
It seemed like he had a high encounter rate with people who had unique personalities since coming to this other world.

“I’m sure it will be profitable, did it meet your expectations?” asked Yuta.

“Yes, of course.
If I couldn’t make a profit with this, then I wouldn’t be a merchant,” replied Marie, satisfied.

“That’s good to hear.
The monsters are quite large, but where should I deliver them?” asked Yuta.

“Well, if possible, could you go to the warehouse? It would be a great help.
Can I ask you to arrange it as discreetly as possible so that the Adventurer’s Guild doesn’t know about it?” replied Marie.

“Yes, that’s no problem.
However, if it’s possible, I would like the Adventurer’s Guild to have a hard time finding you.
As for the noble and other trading companies, they may be interested in the fact that Yuta has surpassed the 50th floor.
What do you think about that?” said Marie.

That’s right, Yuta had planned to receive protection from the Adventurer’s Guild, but things got complicated after their fight.

“It depends on who is causing the trouble.
If someone causes trouble and is in good relations with the Adventurer’s Guild, I may have to seek protection from somewhere else,” replied Yuta.

After seeing the power of Sylphy, Yuta didn’t think he needed protection.
He could handle any trouble that came his way.
Therefore, he didn’t think too much about it.

“In that case, if you need help, please consult with the Porius Trading Company.
We’ll be happy to help,” said Marie.

“Thank you very much.
I may ask for your help when the time comes,” replied Yuta, nodding his head.

After everything was settled, Yuta left the reception room to meet up with Sara and the others.

“Sorry for the wait.
Did you manage to choose what you needed?” asked Yuta.

“I did, but are you sure it’s okay? There’s so much,” replied Sara, looking worriedly at the counter, which had a considerable amount of merchandise.

“It’s fine.
It would be more troublesome if we didn’t have everything we needed,” replied Yuta with a gentle voice, trying to reassure Sara.

Although she didn’t seem completely convinced, Yuta knew that she would eventually get used to it.
He paid for the merchandise and stored it away before being guided out of the store by Marie.

“Master, where are we going?”

It’s the first time someone has called me “Master,” and it feels quite nice.

“We’re going to deliver the defeated monsters from the labyrinth,” I replied.

“So, you defeated monsters, Master?”

“Yes, I’m an adventurer,” I said, prompting Marco to stop his contemplation and walk alongside me.
We passed by some food stalls, and Marco and Kika’s eyes were fixed on them.
I asked Marie to excuse us for a moment and bought some yakitori for the three of them.

Although I was worried about the meat being tough, it should be okay since they’re not sick.
I thought about asking Torque to make some stomach-friendly soup, but it seemed unnecessary.

“This is it,” Marie said, leading us inside.
The space was quite large, with various tools and monster materials stored inside.
It looked like a dismantling warehouse.

“Can I leave it here?” I asked.

“We’ll dismantle the Fire Dragon right away, so please leave it here.
The rest can be taken to the back,” Marie replied.

Following Marie’s instructions, I left the Fire Dragon’s head and torso there.
Suddenly, Marie exclaimed in admiration, and the children started screaming.
Perhaps the Fire Dragon was stimulating.
I realized that my lack of consideration may be the reason I’m not popular.

“Sara, Marco, Kika, don’t be scared.
It’s already dead, so it’s okay,” I said, trying to calm the three of them down.
Their eyes were filled with disbelief, which made me feel a little sad.
I tried to reassure them once again, even though they didn’t understand what was going on.
We managed to get through that moment.

Trying to calm everyone down, I turned around to talk to Marie, only to find her approaching the Fire Dragon and examining its materials as if she was about to cozy up to it.
Looks like I need to calm her down next.

“This is the Fire Dragon.
It’s exactly as I saw it in the records.
Its head was cut off in one blow? The materials are so clean and new.
This is amazing.
So amazing! It’s going to bring in a lot of profit and fame… Hahaha!”

Although I had already transferred the materials to a magical bag we found in the labyrinth, were they still new? Come to think of it, with Sylphy’s help, we were able to return home much faster, so maybe the materials were still fresh.
It’s hard when things slip my mind like that.
Anyway, I need to calm Marie down.
Laughing like that isn’t a good look for a woman.

“Marie, there are still more monsters, so could you please give me instructions?” I asked.

“Oh, yes, I’m sorry.
I got carried away.
Um, please put them over there,” Marie replied, indicating the spot where I should put the Assault Dragon and Wyvern.

“These are in great condition too.
They’re fantastic.
And your magical bag, Yuta-san, is amazing.
If you ever decide to sell it, please come to us first,” Marie said, eyeing the Assault Dragon, Wyvern, and the magical bag.
Her eyes were shining, which was a little scary.
I should change the subject.
Sara and the others were still frozen, and the Fire Dragon was too much for them to handle.

“Marie, I also have Firebirds and Magma Fish.
What should I do with them? I have a lot of Firebirds because I destroyed their nest, and I only want to sell two Magma Fish.
If you could also teach me how to cook them, I would be grateful,” I said.

“Many Firebirds? Magma Fish too?!” Marie’s excitement skyrocketed even further.
It looks like it will take some time for her to calm down.
