After treating a soldier with a nasty cut on his thigh, Ulysses stood up wearily and stretched his arms. He looked up and saw the buzzing activity in the camp.

This was the effect I was hoping for.

Danny was no saint. He was not here to help beings who were no different to strangers to him. This was a temporary scenario. After this incident, he would never meet these people again. But the results of his actions affected his future.

War isn just about numbers. Psychology is a big part of it.

Dannys analytical eye swept across the camp as he smiled in satisfaction. Morale was far too important in war and was often neglected by many leaders.

Man management is crucial. And the best way to have an impact in the short term is to lead by example with a show of sincerity.

In his previous life as Danny Bridgewater, he had been used to manual labour. He had taken on multiple part-time jobs in his youth to pay for various expenses after his parents had died. He had been orphaned when he was 18 and his parents had not left him much. They were an ordinary working-class family while his parents were ordinary high school teachers.

Danny had gone from part time construction work to working in a store to being a janitor. Manual labour meant nothing to him.

Compared to starving, manual labour is nothing. Mused Danny as he swiftly moved on to his next patient.

Poverty, hunger, disorder and weakness. These were the things Danny feared and despised the most in this world. He had taken many great lengths to run from these four demons and achieved his goal. But by the time he had improved the standard of life he desired, he was already old. And then he slowly regressed back to a negative state of mind.

University was a scam. The perfect way to become an employee.

He was no longer blinded by the empty allure of useless titles like Doctor and Professor.

In this life, I don want to work for anyone else.

The flames of ambition had kindled in the young mans eye. He wanted to retire young and not have to struggle in his unfortunate environment.

Meditation, despair and constant internal reflection had fortified his mind and made it adaptable. Danny was still not sure as to how much Ulysses had affected his mind, but this was a change he could accept. He was now firmly rooted in living in The Unbound Battlefield. He had no choice. He could only walk upon the thorny path ahead of him.

The best way to survive is by taking initiative and avoiding asking useless questions. Pointless action can get me killed here. Im no longer Danny Bridgewater. Im now Ulysses Batur.

Danny, or rather Ulysses, had now accepted his new identify.

Im not sure how long I will have this identity for, but I will still use it in the future. I quite like the name Ulysses. It has an oddly fantastical element to it.

As Ulysses was about to move on to his next patient, a soldier in light armour ran and quickly knelt in front of him.

”My Prince, preparations are complete. The men are ready to begin at your command. We await your instruction. ”

As Ulysses had left the tent, he had given preparatory instructions to his men. His plan was not complex, but it needed some preparation to succeed.

Scouts in particular had to move around and understand the topography of the land in more detail. Ulysses had been unhappy with the detail in the map that he possessed. He wanted to know everything there was to know about all 10 kilometres around Moldamir.

Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will be ever victorious. This isn necessarily true, but there is credence to this. Knowledge in war is power. Especially in a war with so many variables in play. said Ulysses to himself.

”Very well. Let me finish up here. Give me an hour and we will begin. ”

”Yes, my Prince. ” Replied the Solider after seeing the incredible concentration on Ulysses face.

The kneeling soldier stood up and waited respectfully by the side. Danny walked to the tent of the next wounded soldier, but before he knelt, he looked at the soldier who had reported to him and said, ”Oh, one more important detail. Get me a shovel. ”

It was a sunny day, with the sun in the sky burning in full glory, shining on the troops at the bottom. It was not good weather for working up a sweat, but Ulysses did not care. He had a mission

With a shovel he worked, digging into the softened soil. It wasn just Ulysses who held a shovel. Thousands of troops were at work digging. Others were busy collecting tree branches and choosing wood. It was a rather odd sight.
